Africa's Stalled Development: International Causes and Cures
Published in Paperback by Lynne Rienner Publishers (January, 2003)
Authors: David K. Leonard and Scott Straus
Average review score:

An Enlightening Outlook
Scott Strauss and David K. Leonard marvelously delinate the African quagmire with a sense of optomism and honesty. The book boldy breaks down a myriad of preconcieved misconceptions and offers a scholarly aproach that shows the potential for a rebirth of the African continent. Many thanks to these brilliant men.

After Empire: Scott, Naipaul, Rushdie
Published in Paperback by University of Chicago Press (February, 1997)
Author: Michael Gorra
Average review score:

Identity, imperialism and literature in a modern world
After Empire is a revealing window into identity and displaced cultures. The novelists featured are themselves unique writers and have interesting personal journies that are reflected in the book. While at first reading the book may appear academic in approach, it is certainly not an intimidating read for those with an interest in literature and the way in which race, ethnicity and culture form individual and national identity. An intellectually challenging and fascinating exploration of the perspectives of the colonisers and the colonised .

After the Good Gay Times: Asheville, Summer of '35, a Season With F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Author: Tony. Buttitta
Average review score:

a most remarkable summer
for anyone that wants an insiders look at the complicated emotions and life of f. scott fitzerald; this is a treasure. it connects many of the setting and scenes to the flamboyant but sometimes sad life of the auther himself. it gives one an insiders look at how the events in fitzgerald's life affected not only his way of thinking but significantly his writing. you come away with a greater understanding of how the author used his writings to describe his world; and in doing so provided some meager comfort. please read this to learn more about such a complicated and gifted man.

Afternoon of an Author, a Selection of Uncollected Stories and Essays
Published in Paperback by MacMillan Publishing Company (February, 1972)
Authors: F. Scott Fitzgerald, F. Scott Fifzgerald, and Arthur Mizener
Average review score:

best fitzgerald short story collection
Even though this title appears to be out-of-print, I highly recommend taking Amazon's offer to track one down for you. It is by far Fitzgerald's best collection of shorter work, ranging from his younger Bazil stories to his more mature "semi-Hollywood" work. It also displays his various abilities with modernist literature (viz. the title story) that marks him as a writer truly ahead of his age.

Alfa Romeo: View from the Mouth of the Dragon (Velocity Media's Interactive Automotive Library Series)
Published in CD-ROM by Velocity Group ()
Authors: Kip Crosby and S. Scott Callan
Average review score:

Wow. Simply Wow
I first heard of this book in a review in Sports Car International magazine. As a dedicated Alfisti, I had to check it out. I was debating between the ($) printed version, or the ($) CD version. Needless to say, the CD version won. I was a little apprehensive about a "book on computer", but the authors did an amazing job. Basically, the navigation is through Powerpoint, so it's really easy to learn, once you figure out where exactly to click. Besides that, the sound and video clips make the CD worth it 10 times over. I couldn't believe some of the video, the blueprints, and such that were on the multimedia presentation. I would highly recommend this to anyone with an interest in pre-war GP racing, or pre-war Italian autos.

Alice Walker (Black Americans of Achievement)
Published in Library Binding by Chelsea House Pub (Library) (December, 1993)
Authors: Tony Gentry, Coretta Scott King, and Nathan I. Huggins
Average review score:

very good
This book will be of especial help to young readers. I do, however have one quibble, and that is that the great writer Alice Walker has challenged white male prejudice so effectively that it is regrettable that there is not more discussion of this in the text. As a white radical feminist who sides with African-American women in their struggle against oppression, I am grateful that books like this are written.
